Breið development company was founded in 2020 by Brim hf. and Akraneskaupstaður,
The company's main goal is to promote business and innovation in Akranes and to develop the area in Breið where a mixed settlement will be built.
The area covered by Breið is the westernmost part of the town, close to the harbor and the city center, and offers an opportunity for ambitious development that could become completely unique on a national level. Innovation, digital development and sustainability lay the foundation for a unique and leading organization into new times and demanding challenges. The area has all the potential to become a desirable place to live as well as a melting pot for creative activities and entrepreneurs in a unique nature and sea-connected town environment.
THE CONTEST OF IDEAS
Ideas competition 2023
In the summer of 2022, an international ideas competition was held, in collaboration with Arkitektafélag Íslands. The goal of the competition was to get professionals to submit proposals in accordance with the future vision that the area will become residential for different age groups combined with job creation with a focus on high technology, innovation and sustainability.

The winner of the competition was the elegant proposal of the architectural studio NORDIC in collaboration with Efla hf.
